History

Our History at the Naturopathic Institute

The Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education (NITE) was founded in 1995 by Bessheen Baker. Bessheen developed her interest and love for natural health as a child. She began studying under herbalists, chiropractors and naturopaths as a teenager, through the guidance of her mother, and took a special interest in nutrition, herbs and the study of iridology.

Bessheen discovered early on in her studies that there were very few educational institutions offering programs in natural health, which led her to form her life dream: to build a school for true naturopathic training, where students of all age groups and educational backgrounds could come together and create a foundation of understanding for natural health and develop it into a profession.

Her dream was realized in 1995, when after traveling the country for two years teaching natural health, she founded the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education.

Since its founding, the Naturopathic Institute has had over 100 graduating classes with students from all over the United States receiving diplomas and setting forth to change the face of natural health in this country. The growth of the Naturopathic Institute has been so rapid that it had to move to a larger facility in downtown Mount Pleasant in the summer of 2008. Programs and training continue to develop as the student body continues to grow.

There are three specialty areas that the Naturopathic Institute now offers programs in: natural health, therapeutic massage and assisting mothers through labor and delivery as a holistic doula. The uniqueness and high quality of the school and its students is known nationwide. The instructors are each highly-respected within their individual disciplines and hold national accreditation.

This is only the beginning of what is sure to be a bright future at the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education.
